Another Milestone for FSA: We Progress Into The 2nd Round of The FA Youth Cup

It was a historic night at Aylestone Park, in what many people have described as the most entertaining game of youth football they have ever seen.

Welcoming League 1 Lincoln City to our home was always going to be a tough game, but the fans turned out in force and the players delivered what can only be described of nothing short of incredible. 503 people attend the game and they certainly got their moneys worth.

Our team didn't get off to a great start. Lincoln City dominated what was happening on the field and took the lead after only 15 minutes into the game which should also be the score at half time. With the first attack of the second half, the referee decided on penalty in favor of Lincoln City which made the score 2-0 in minute 46.

Nobody could have expected that the game was only to start now!

Our boys never gave up, played with all their heart, and pulled back one goal after 54 minutes. Full of confidence and with the desire to make this an unforgettable evening for everyone, the team marched on and it was in minute 72 when Charlie Kilburn equalized the score.

And it got even better: Five minutes before the end of the game our team took the lead, after Aaron Nuttall dribbled around three Lincoln defenders to slot past the keeper (video below). The drama didn’t stop as Lincoln scored in the 89th minute to take the game to extra time.

After a goalless first half of extra time, Lincoln City took the lead just 5 minutes into the second period of extra time making it 4-3. Not to the surprise of anybody watching the game, the team didn’t give in and managed to make it 4-4 with just 5 minutes to play and took the game to a penalty shootout.

Then up stepped the hero of the night: Josh Wormleighton! After saving 3 out of 4 penalties, it enabled Delroy to slot his penalty home for us to progress to the 2nd round of the FA Youth Cup for the first time in the clubs history.

This is an amazing achievement, and it was a night that these young players will never forget! To say we are proud of them is an understatement, well done to every single player and member of staff involved, you where incredible!

Man of the match: Josh Wormleighton

Josh didn't only showed his excellence during the game but was the hero of the game with three penalty saves to secure our teams progress into the next round.
