Hughes Wins It Late For FSA PRO London

A late strike for George Hughes gives FSA PRO London an extended lead in the Cat One League.

It was a game that always brings a challenge, our well-known opponents Worthing were no team to underestimate in a match that was massive in the title charge. A slow start from FSA PRO saw us 1-0 down in the opening 5 minutes. A throw into the box flicked on by an FSA defender caused confusion between the players and resulted in a Tom Meredith own goal.

The game plan didn’t change, and the FSA players knew what was needed. It didn’t take long to equalise as Lee Quincey drove forward with the ball, played a pass out wide to Kenny Bellamingle who cut inside and bent the ball into the far corner making it 1-1 after 9 minutes.

Plenty of possession for the home side as FSA PRO London kept piling on the pressure. Worthing were hoping to pounce on an FSA mistake as they tried to remain stubborn at the back. 19 minutes on the clock, FSA full back Karim Mellar found striker George Hughes who raced through on goal with a beautiful left foot half volley flew past the Worthing keeper giving a deserved half time lead to FSA.

Second half began and Worthing came out with a lot of fight. FSA on the back foot and deeper than normal was causing some problems. A deep free kick in the 65th minute from Worthing to the back post was headed in for the equaliser. Arguably deserved as chances were wasted by FSA in the first half.

A few changed for FSA were made to freshen things up. It was a game that no team wanted to end level so both sides were left slightly exposed. Not many clear cut chances to talk about from each team as it became a massive defensive battle. Set pieces looked like the brightest chance for a goal as FSA came close from a couple of corners but nothing clear cut! 93 minutes on the clock Tom Meredith took a ball down from an FSA throw in and played an unbelievable diagonal pass to Seb Wylie. Seb one on one with the full back saw him beat his opponent to put a dangerous cross into the box where the one and only George Hughes snatches the all important winner!
